Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 whole store-bought pound cake (like Sara Lee) Thaw if frozen.
  • 1.5 cups heavy whipping cream Chill the mixing bowl before whipping.
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar Can substitute with powdered sugar for a smoother texture.
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound ripe strawberries (hulled and sliced vertically) Use the ripest strawberries for the best flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. If using frozen pound cake, let it thaw completely. Slice the cake into 3/8-inch slices.
  2. In a chilled mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Chill until ready to assemble.
Assembly
  1. Start by placing one slice of pound cake onto a plate.
  2. Top with about 3 tablespoons of whipped cream, followed by a layer of sliced strawberries.
  3. Stack a second piece of pound cake on top of that, adding another 3 tablespoons of whipped cream and more strawberries.
  4. Serve immediately for the best texture and taste.

Notes

For best presentation, consider serving in individual glass dessert dishes. Add a mint sprig or drizzle chocolate for extra flair. Assemble the shortcake components separately for better texture.
