Ingredients

For the dough
  • 1 cup Warm Water (110 degrees F)
  • 1.5 teaspoons Instant Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup Can be substituted with sugar.
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter
  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
For the garlic topping
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter (for topping)
  • 2 teaspoons Minced Garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (for topping)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and maple syrup. Let it sit for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add the melted butter, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1.5-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Punch down the dough, divide it into 12 equal pieces, and roll each piece into logs. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Cover the breadsticks and let them rise for another 1-2 hours. Preheat your oven to 425°F during this time.
  3. Bake the breadsticks for 15-20 minutes until they turn golden brown.
  4. Mix the melted butter, minced garlic, and salt. Brush this mixture over the hot breadsticks immediately after they come out of the oven.

Notes

Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes. You can add herbs like rosemary or thyme for variations.
