Method
Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a small saucepan, warm the milk and 1/4 cup butter until it's just warm to the touch — not boiling.
- Gradually add the warm milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly until smooth.
- Stir in the egg, followed by the remaining flour, until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until it feels smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately 1 hour.
Assembly and Baking
- Roll the dough out onto a floured surface into a rectangle.
- Spread melted butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
- Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other and cut into 12 even slices.
- Place the slices on a greased baking sheet and let them rise again for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and fragrant.
Icing
- For the icing, mix powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and drizzle it over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
Serve slightly warm; pairs perfectly with coffee or orange juice. You can add walnuts or fruits for variation. Homemade cinnamon rolls can be frozen for up to 3 months, just let them thaw before reheating.
