Preparation
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Form the mixture into evenly sized patties.
Cooking
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through.
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, sprinkle in the flour and stir well to create a roux, letting it cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens to desired consistency.
- Return the patties to the skillet, allowing them to simmer in the gravy for a few minutes for increased flavor.
- Serve the dish hot with your choice of sides.
Notes
Best when served with classic mashed potatoes or rice. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Reheat with a splash of beef broth.
