For the chicken
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces You can also use chicken thighs for more moisture.
  • 1 cup cornstarch For coating the chicken.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten For coating.
  • 1 cup flour For the second coating.
  • 1/2 cup sesame oil For frying.
For the sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Can substitute with tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1/4 cup honey Can substitute with maple syrup.
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
For garnish
  • sesame seeds For garnish.
  • green onions, chopped For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Begin by coating the chicken pieces in cornstarch, ensuring they are well covered.
  2. Dip the coated chicken pieces in the beaten eggs, followed by a flour coating.
Cooking
  1. In a large pan, heat the sesame oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Fry the chicken until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. While the chicken cooks, prepare the sauce by combining the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger in a separate saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Once the chicken is crispy, toss it in the sesame sauce to ensure each piece is well-coated.
Serving
  1. Serve the dish garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

For best storage, allow leftovers to cool completely and store in airtight containers. It stays fresh in the fridge for 3-4 days or can be frozen for longer storage. Reheat using an oven or air fryer for best crispiness.
