Ingredients

Cake Mixes
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
Additional Ingredients
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil Can be substituted with applesauce for a healthier option.
Frosting and Decoration
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Used for chocolate drizzle.
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions, using the eggs, water, and oil. Mix until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, prepare the vanilla cake mix in the same way.
Baking
  1. To create the zebra pattern, pour a spoonful of chocolate batter into the center of each cake pan, followed by a spoonful of vanilla batter on top. Repeat until both batters are used up.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool completely.
Assembly
  1. To assemble, level the cakes if necessary, and spread a layer of vanilla frosting on top of one cake. Place the second cake on top and frost the top and sides with chocolate frosting.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the vanilla frosting and cocoa powder to create a chocolate drizzle. Drizzle on top of the cakes in a zigzag pattern.
Serving
  1. Slice and enjoy your Copycat Zebra Cakes!
